Les enfants (full title Les enfants font leur cinéma, "The Children Make Their Movies") is a 50 second animation produced in 2000 by Gobelins students Thomas Romain, Tania Palumbo, Jérôme Cottray and Stanislas Brunet.[1]
It predates Garage Kids by a year and served as the introduction short for that year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival.[2][3] Romain directed the short, while Palumbo worked as the character designer. The art style was inspired by Japanese animator Kōji Morimoto.[4]
Éric Garnet, producer at the French animation studio Antefilms, was in attendance at the film's premiere and took interest in it due to its atmosphere.[2][4] Within a few months, Romain and Palumbo had signed on to develop the short into a series with the company.[2]
Plot[]
The animation features a young boy running through the streets carrying a movie reel. Police sirens can be heard and a young child looks on as the boy runs by into a tunnel. The boy heads into a room where other children, among which are the pre-Lyoko Warriors (except for Aelita and William) as well as Milly and Tamiya, have been waiting for him. The boy then passes the reel to Jeremie, who puts the movie into the projector and the kids enjoy the homemade animation of their pirate adventure.
Trivia[]
- The last part of the short features a shift in animation style, which would become a signature element of Code Lyoko.
