"The only power I ever had was future flash, and it got wiped out when Jeremie was updating the supercomputer. And he never reprogrammed it because it was, and I quote, 'useless'."

–Odd complaining about his lack of superpowers in Triple Trouble.

Future Flash was Odd's superpower only in Season 1. It allowed him to see certain events into the future for very short periods.

This power would trigger at any time without his knowing, and would last only for a few seconds. He had no control over it and it rarely activated. When it did, Odd usually lost his guard, which made him a vulnerable target for monsters.

Description[]

In his first vision in Teddygozilla, he saw Aelita falling into the Digital Sea in a bottomless crater in the Desert Sector. It later activated again in Cruel Dilemma to see Yumi falling into the Digital Sea through a bottomless crater in the Forest Sector. Odd gets another vision when he and Ulrich are searching for Aelita in The Girl of the Dreams; it was revealed that she was trapped inside a Guardian. Sometime after this, Odd uses it to help Aelita find a way out of a labyrinth in the Mountain Sector to the activated tower in Laughing Fit. This was the last time this power was ever shown to be used.

It was eventually revealed in Triple Trouble that Future Flash was accidentally deleted when Jeremie was updating the supercomputer and he never reprogrammed it since it was, according to him, "useless", likely because the visions that were shown could not be altered, making the ability a liability in both combat and strategic planning.

Trivia[]

  • Series head writer Sophie Decroisette and director Jérôme Mouscadet later revealed they decided to drop Future Flash after Season 1 because "it bored us".[3] Decroisette elaborated, saying: "It didn't work... It was long to set up... [and] to have a character that knows what is going to happen is really a pain to manage. It’s very complicated, because it ruins the surprise." Although acknowledging the set up worked in Cruel Dilemma, she explained: "... we couldn’t pull this off every time. This would be hell, if every episode had to go like “[Odd] anticipates something and it has to be prevented” or “in the end it doesn’t happen because stuff” and so on…"
  • The power has no single name in the French version, being called "anticipation" in the series' bible, and "flash d'anticipation" (flash of anticipation) and "flash de prémonitions" (flash of premonitions) in the show itself[4][5][6]
  • It remains unknown when Odd first discovered this ability since it was never shown in X.A.N.A. Awakens.
