Here's a theory:
The entire series stopped taking place after the episode "Ghost Channel." Aelita never rescued them, and they've all been trapped in a simulation bubble ever since.
Here's some compelling arguments for this:
1. Until that episode, aside from tower control and creativity, neither of which were put to very good use, Aelita had been near useless, and suddenly, she was able to get to the simulation bubble and destroy it? Seems unlikely.
2. XANA usually guards major things such as guardians and towers, and yet there were no monsters near the bubble, and Aelita was able to easily get to it and destroy it? It's more likely that she wasn't able to make it to the bubble, and maybe got attacked by a guardian, and the guardian made some kind of internal simulation for Aelita, and dumped her in the simulation, explaining her materialization.
3. Up until that point, 99% of what Jeremie coded or manufactured was semi-functional at best "look at the hornet control robot." Yet after that episode, he was suddenly able to materialize Aelita? What's wrong here?
4. The simulation bubble was proven to be buggy somewhat. And a few episodes later, season 2 started, and Lyoko suddenly got a brand new lighting engine that no-one noticed? Was this retcon, or was it a simulation glitch? The same thing could be said in that in seasons 2 and 4, most of the sectors' layouts completely changed. Perhaps the simulation is a crapshoot at best.
5. XANA didn't start trying to steal Aelita's memory until season 2, yet has always wanted to leave the supercomputer? My theory makes more sence than XANA's motives.
Does anyone have any reason to believe that any episode after that one actually happened?
