The Black Manta was created by X.A.N.A., solely for the use of transportation for William. It is a recolored Manta, replacing white with light grey and navy blue with black. It has a light grey square design on the edge of both its wings and black reins used to steer the creature. It scarcely uses its laser, and usually allows William to attack.
X.A.N.A. William does not always ride the Manta, and will often order it to attack the Lyoko Warriors in order to capture Aelita without any distractions. Examples of these can be seen in the episodes, Opening Act, where William called his Manta for backup to corner Ulrich in the Forest Sector and also in Distant Memory, when William calls his Manta and tells it to attack both Ulrich and Odd so he can throw Aelita into the Digital Sea. The Black Manta made its first appearance in William Returns and was last seen in Down to Earth.

Trivia[]
- As of Music to Soothe the Savage Beast, Odd is the only other Lyoko Warrior aside from William to have gotten onto the Black Manta and controlled it.
- The Black Manta is the only kind of dark monster that has ever appeared in the show (dark monsters typically appear in the video games).
